Recipe for Grilled Potato Sandwiches
These grilled potato sandwiches are a unique and delicious twist on the classic grilled cheese. They feature a potato-based “bread” filled with ham and cheese, then grilled to perfection.
Here’s how to make them:
Ingredients:
2 cups mashed potatoes (make sure they are well-seasoned)
1 egg, beaten
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tablespoon chopped fresh rosemary or thyme (optional)
8 sleds of ham
8 slices of mozzarella or provolone cheese
Butter or oil for grilling
Instructions:
Prepare the Potato Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, beaten egg, flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and chopped herbs (if using). Mix until well combined and you have a dough-like consistency.
Shape the Potato Slices:
On a lightly floured surface, divide the potato mixture into 8 equal portions.
Shape each portion into a patty about 1/2 inch thick, forming a total of 8 “bread” slices.
Assemble the Sandwiches:
Place a slice of cheese and a slice of ham between two potato patties, creating a sandwich. Repeat with the remaining patties, cheese, and ham.
Grill the Sandwiches:
Heat a grill pan or non-stick skillet over medium heat and add a little butter or oil.
Carefully place the sandwiches in the pan and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the potato patties are golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is melted.
Serve:
Remove the sandwiches from the pan and let them cool slightly before serving.
Tips:
Mashed Potatoes: Ensure the mashed potatoes are thick and not too runny, as this will help the patties hold together better.
Cheese Options: Feel free to use your favorite cheese or a combination of cheeses for different flavors.
Additional Fillings: You can also add other fillings like sautéed spinach, tomatoes, or grilled vegetables for added flavor and nutrition.
Enjoy your grilled potato sandwiches, a delightful and hearty meal that’s sure to be a hit!
